Small Steps to a Greener Outlook...

Yep, that's a real lunch bag~ but Earth friendly...
I've been thinking, really thinking about how my family, business, etc... can become more "green friendly". It really is such an important subject that we all have to be accountable for~ After all we really live under ONE roof....

Business wise~I think of all the labels I print, & print...the ink, the little cello bags I use, etc... then I think what could the biz really live without, without affecting the quality I insist on. I decided (although it's a small step)~ this month I will be NOT packaging my soaps with a printed label, & I will NOT use little cello bags. Instead, I will be slipping the soaps/products into an earth friendly little brown bag-stamp the ingredients, & if need be ~write the soap name & ingredients. After all, I'm a very small company & so I have the luxury of taking this small step toward helping the enviroment. BUT think~ if we all took ONE small step~ what's under this ONE roof of ours really would become greener.

So, if you are buying soap or another product this month~ it will be tucked inside a little Earth friendly brown bag or perhaps even a handmade reuseable fabric bag. And in the meantime our family will continue to carpool when we can, recycle, turn the lights off, turn the heat down, etc...

Do you have any ideas that you'd like to share that would make our earth a little "greener"? Please share....

Your paper bags look great...simple is always stunning in my book.

I found that super cute fabric grocery bag tutorial (its on my blog). I whipped one up yesterday and bought more fabric tonight. I'd like to have enough of them that I don't need to use any plastic shopping bags...I think I'll make some for my friends too.

Thats a great idea Carrie! I've really thought long and hard on how to package my soaps, but cannot think of anything else that would allow the consumer to SEE the soap, since thats the focal point! But I do re-use all my packing material. :D

Heidi- I'm heading off to your site to see the fabric grocery tutorial...I have often thought of the same thing to do, especially since a fabric shoppe is like a candy shoppe to me~ I have tons~ I can't help it!!!

egassner~ Thanks, and I thought about how part of the "sale" is seeing the soap, but I'm hoping if people like what they see on my site, they wouldn't mind the newest "Earth Friendly" little brown bag packaging. I am also going to whip up tons of the reusable fabric bags that are little enough to hold a bar or two of soap...

Love the brown bag idea, hopefully many people will turn to this option of packaging soaps and other products, to avoid using the cellophane bags that just get stuck in the garbage! Good luck.

The brown bag looks so cute! I think I may do that at craft fairs and when I hostess "bubble parties"! I ordered a logo stamp last week! Thanks for getting my wheels turning!

LEss packaging is always better. I am a huge advocate of that. We, at Product Body, are looking into changing up some things, like offering single use products instead of jars....use something else. Laways thinking how to leave a smaller foot print on this Earth.

Gigi, you always have such wonderful ideas.

Just thought I would let you know that the soap reached me today. I quickly opened it and took pictures so that I could blog about it. I love it!!

I agree Carrie, simple is good and very earth friendly, which is important! I've found that most people really appreciate the natural (like you use) and don't need fancy wrapping and exotic colors to get excited about a product. I love your brown bag. The simplicity makes a big statement. Our EARTH is very important!

I remember getting something in a little brown bag from you! :) I liked its comforting home-iness. I save paper bags to make recycled paper with the kids.

Good for you, and thank you, for becoming more green!

I so agree with you on this. I am always looking for ways to re -use or re-purpose things. Here in Ireland we have a green campaign going that they call "The Power of One" and it's your idea of each of us doing one little thing. As they ask in the ads for it "What one change will you make?"

Delighted you are going to use my idea for the tealights at the wedding. Thanks...Pam
